The Bride of the Crab

Today's mad Moe Marcus tale was also originally on the Valentine theme schedule for last week but got bumped for whatever reason I came up with at the time. I guess maybe because there’s actually not much love in this story, unless of course you’re in love with a talking crab monster. I personally love closing panels with no dialog...

From the September 195 issue of Chamber of Chills #12

The transformation to crustacean shocked me more than most violence here. Cool story, even if the thought of Mona forever is a mother of a cold shower.

I wanted to stick around long enough to see Mona turned into a crab. Darn.

SUCH A BIZARRE SERIES OF EVENTS, AND THE CRABS ARE REALLY WEIRD. I LIKE THE LAST PANEL ALOT TOO, ENDS WITH A REAL CHILL WHEN ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS.

Now residing in the cold depths of the sea!

>to see Mona turned into a crab

I think it's safe to say that Mona was already a crab.

Definitely a crazy story, but very fun at the same time.for some reason it kinda reminds me of Lovecraft's Innsmouth story.

Imagine how much creepier this story would have been if the crab people had prehensil eyes!

Sorta reminds me of that one H.P. Lovecraft story where the townspeople of Innsmouth are slowly transforming into fishy monsters. Although this guy got lucky and had treasure and immortal life thrown in without the eternity of serving the elder gods.

Yeah, I was thinking Lovecraft too. I really like how the artist took the time to make sure the old man and the son had a strong family resemblance.

Greedy dumb girlfriends seemed to be a real problem at the time, so often they appear in those stories.
